Despite being the first to make it onto the professional tennis tour, Venus explained how Serena’s achievements inspired her to chase Grand Slam victories of her own.

Venus shared, “I had the honor of having great company in Serena, and I learned so much from her too because she was younger and the first in the family to win a grand slam.”

Serena, who captured her first Grand Slam title at the 1999 US Open as a teenager, unknowingly became a source of inspiration for Venus.

The five-time Wimbledon champion revealed that Serena’s courage, character, and fearlessness were qualities she quietly absorbed by simply watching her younger sister compete.

“I learned so much from her just by watching without her even saying a word. By her courage, character and her fearlessness, I said, ‘I want that too. That’s how you win a major,’” Venus reflected, showing how her sister’s actions spoke louder than words.

Venus highlighted that, at just 17 years old, Serena might not have realized the influence she had. “I don’t think Serena knew at the time because she was 17 years old, and what do you know at that age?” Venus said with a smile.
