Eminem spoke up to reveal his difficult journey to rehab for his daughter Hailie Jade

Eminem talked about how he beat his drug addiction and obsessive exercise regimen after leaving rehab, with a weight of more than 100 kg.

In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Eminem revealed that, during a period of being overweight at over 104 kg and facing the risk of relapse after his drug overdose in 2007, he decided to find a “replacement addiction”—running.

In 2002, while working on the film “8 Mile”, Eminem developed insomnia and was given a sedative by a friend to help manage the stress. From that point, the rap star became dependent on various prescription drugs, including Ambien, Valium, and Vicodin.

“Using Vicodin and Valium for years left a huge hole in my stomach, so to avoid the pain, I kept eating,” Eminem explained, sharing why he became overweight.

In 2007, after overdosing, Eminem suffered a severe drug overdose. At that time, the rapper’s body had become severely overweight, reaching 104 kg.

Desiring to break free from his past and return to a normal life, Eminem decided to adopt a healthier “addiction”—running. “Exercise gave me a natural high from endorphins, and it helped me sleep better,” he said.

Every morning before heading to the studio, the singer would run 14 kilometers in about an hour, and then run another 14 kilometers at night, totaling at least 27 km a day on the treadmill. The music star became obsessed with making sure he burned 2,000 calories a day and relentlessly pushed himself to follow this intense routine.

“I became a crazy treadmill bug,” Eminem described.

Although he lost 37 kg and returned to an average weight of 67 kg, the intense exercise left him with a hip injury. After recovering, the famous rapper switched from running to focusing on body-specific exercises.

Eminem recalled, “The workouts were brutal. The first time I did leg exercises, I couldn’t walk normally for two days.”

Since then, the rap star has built a regular workout routine, with daily exercises targeting his legs, arms, and chest. Beyond working out, Eminem also keeps himself busy with work due to his obsession with his past.

“If I have a break after a busy week, I’m afraid I’ll fall back into my old ways. When you start something and see results, you don’t want to give up and start over,” the singer shared.

Eminem, a nine-time Grammy winner and an Oscar winner for his role in “8 Mile”, has recently revived his career with hits like “Not Afraid,” “I Need A Doctor,” and “Lighters.” He also won Artist of the Year at the 2013 YouTube Music Awards.

Eminem has a long history of using prescription sedatives, at one point taking up to 60 pills a day. He has also released two albums detailing his journey through addiction recovery: “Relapse” in 2009 and “Recovery” in 2010.

He successfully quit his addiction and now he can become a good father to his 3 daughters and in the near future, he will be promoted to the sacred and precious position of “grandfather”!
