Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders headline the 2025 NFL Draft, but there will be plenty of interest in the likes of Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel.
With the No. 12 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys obviously aren’t targeting a quarterback. Not with Dak Prescott’s $240 million extension kicking in this year and so many roster holes that must be addressed.
While scouts are largely divided on where Dart could be drafted, Ward and Sanders are sure to be gone by the time Dallas picks at No. 12 anyway. But a top NFL insider suggests that Dallas will find Prescott’s new understudy at some point during the draft.
Speaking on “The Insiders”, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport opined that the Cowboys would take a quarterback after round one. Rapoport even mentioned Quinn Ewers as a potential target for Dallas:
“You obviously have Dak Prescott as the starter…but this to me says the Cowboys are going to go quarterback in the Draft and I wonder how high are they going to go?
I would be surprised at this point if they take a quarterback in the first round, I think everybody would. But what if it’s someone like Quinn Ewers in the second round? A quarterback who is really talented, who they know well, who might not have to play for a couple years but in three years might end up being someone who is certainly talented enough to be the starting quarterback.”
Ewers had his best college season in 2024, completing 65.8 percent of pass attempts for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Texas qualified for the College Football Playoff and reached the Cotton Bowl/semifinal game, losing 28-14 to eventual champion Ohio State.
Cowboys Should Consider Quinn Ewers In Round 2

Regardless of where he lands, Ewers isn’t going to start right away in 2025. But the upside is tremendous, and the Texas product could emerge as a quality starter down the line if he lands in the right offensive system.
The Cowboys should absolutely target Ewers if he’s available to them in round two. Let’s not forget that Jones hit a home run when he used a 2016 fourth-round pick on Dak Prescott, who took over the starting job following a preseason injury to Tony Romo.
