Denver Broncos News

ESPN thinks a veteran running back that’s still available in free agency would be a good fit for the Denver Broncos.

Bill Barnwell from ESPN thinks free agent running back JK Dobbins is a player that could be a good fit on Denver’s roster.

Dobbins, a former Ohio State Buckeyes standout, is just 26 years old, but he’s battled injuries throughout his pro career. The former second round draft pick isn’t a featured back at this point in his career as a result of the injuries, but he can still be a dynamic offensive player.

In 2024, Dobbins rushed for 905 yards and nine touchdowns while playing in 13 games for the Los Angeles Chargers. Dobbins averaged 4.6 yards per attempt (he also caught 32 passes for 153 yards).

From ESPN: Dobbins has battled injury after injury during his time in the league, including serious knee and Achilles trauma that cost him all of 2021, most of 2022 and virtually all of 2023. Even last season, in what was the healthiest season of his career, he was forced onto injured reserve for four games because of a knee sprain.

Denver is almost certainly going to add another running back or two to the roster before the start of the 2025 season.

Signing Dobbins while targeting a running back in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft is a scenario that would make a lot of sense for the Broncos. It would keep Dobbins out of a full-time featured role while also not putting too much on the plate of a rookie running back.

If the Broncos target a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft, former Tennessee Vols running back Dylan Sampson is a name that would make sense.
