New Orleans Saints News

An offseason of moves continues for the New Orleans Saints. Kellen Moore’s team has now added a veteran wideout for their offense.

Saints bring back Brandin Cooks

The Saints are signing veteran WR Brandin Cooks to a two-year deal worth $13 million, according to Adam Schefter.

This is yet another reunion for the Saints and a former draft pick of theirs. The last tenure for Cooks in New Orleans ended in some frustration from both sides, but there are a lot of new faces involved a decade after he was their top pick in 2014.

Last time in black and gold, Cooks started 31 games for the Saints and caught 215 passes for 2,861 yards and 20 touchdowns.

His speed and downfield ability were keys to his success. As an older wideout, he will likely play more of a depth role at this point of his career in New Orleans.

Cooks also has the fifth-most receiving touchdowns of 40 yards-or-more (15) in that span. Despite being traded to four different teams, he and Brandon Marshall are the only players in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards in a season with four different teams. In 2024, Cooks played in ten games for Dallas with nine starts, catching 26 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns before being sidelined with a knee injury.

Cooks’ first season with Dallas was in passing with Kellen Moore’s departure. Moore headed to the Los Angeles Chargers during the offseason when Cooks joined the Cowboys. They have not worked together until now.

He totaled over 600 receiving yards for the Cowboys in 2023, their first season following Moore’s departure. It remains to be seen how much juice he has left in the tank. This addition should not prevent the Saints from adding a big-body WR option at some point this offseason as well.
