As the NFL world awaits Aaron Rodgers’ free agent decision, it appears that one post-playing career gig can be ruled out if he decides to retire.

Legendary NFL quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Drew Brees and Troy Aikman moved into NFL broadcasting following their playing careers. If Aaron Rodgers wishes to do the same, however, he might have to wait patiently for his opportunity.

According to a report from Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, NFL media partners don’t have any significant interest in hiring Rodgers if he decides to call it quits on his legendary playing career:

“Aaron Rodgers still has a few NFL teams vying for his services. But if he wants to retire and move into sports media, the former Packers and Jets QB might find a chilly reception, Front Office Sports has learned.

With the 41-year-old Rodgers at a career crossroads, I spoke with sources at multiple NFL media partners, as well as agents, to gauge his prospects. I found surprisingly little interest in one of the league’s all-time great QBs.

Sources say Rodgers would get nowhere near the rapturous welcome given to QB contemporaries like Tom Brady, who signed a staggering 10-year, $375 million with Fox Sports in 2022. “

Aaron Rodgers has spoken to the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, but there’s no timeline for his decision. The Minnesota Vikings were reportedly interested in Rodgers, but they have decided to move forward with 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy spoke to talent agents and media executives who expressed concerns about Rodgers being a “know-it-all”. They also raised worries about his COVID-19 conspiracy theories, with a source telling McCarthy that Rodgers is “insufferable.”

Rodgers is no stranger to the cameras outside of football, though, so there’s something for NFL media partners to scout. He briefly hosted the popular “Jeopardy!” game show in 2021 and had cameos in “Game of Thrones.”

Aaron Rodgers Had A Forgettable 2024 Season With Jets

Rodgers tore his Achilles in his Week 1, 2023 debut with the New York Jets in a Monday night game against the Buffalo Bills. With a clean bill of health for 2024, expectations were sky-high for the Jets.

But the Jets reached another level of dysfunction despite the presence of Rodgers. Head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas were fired mid-season, and nothing went right for the AFC East club as they limped to a 5-12 finish.

Will 2024 mark the sour end to Rodgers’ iconic career, or does the future Hall of Famer have one more run in him? Stay tuned.
