NFL fans cannot comprehend how former Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb remains unsigned, nearly two weeks after the 2025 free agent market officially opened.

Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chubb was subsequently limited to eight games in 2024, finishing with 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

But before the injury, Chubb was in the conversation as the NFL’s best running back. This is a four-time Pro Bowler with four 1,000-yard seasons and 51 career rushing touchdowns on his resume, after all.

The popular ML Football X/Twitter account posted about the 29-year-old Nick Chubb remaining a free agent, and social media remains entirely baffled that he’s still available with the 2025 NFL Draft approaching.

“No need to remind us We’ve all been asking the team daily to re-sign him since the season ended,” one fan said.

“He’s still nasty,” another user wrote.

Future chief…,” said one fan.

“Wish him the best. He’s a monster on the field when healthy. Would love to see him with a contender,” another commented.

“Broncos signing him,” guessed a user.

“How this happened wow i know RBs market been dying but it might be dead even with Barkely contract,” said a fan.

25-year-old Jerome Ford remains the top running back on the Browns’ depth chart. The 2022 fifth-round pick had 813 rushing yards, 1,132 yards of offense and nine touchdowns in the 2023 season as Chubb’s replacement.

But Ford struggled to build on his breakout season, thanks mainly to the regression of Cleveland’s offensive line. Ford finished with 565 rushing yards, three touchdowns and 790 yards of offense in 2024.

Given Cleveland’s inactivity on the RB free agent and trade markets, it feels likely that GM Andrew Berry will address the position at the draft. Meanwhile, fans continue to await news of Nick Chubb’s next landing spot.

Which Teams Should Consider Nick Chubb?

The Dallas Cowboys immediately stand out as a logical landing spot for Nick Chubb after losing 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle to the Carolina Panthers. Right now, veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders sit atop the Cowboys’ RB depth chart.

The San Francisco 49ers should also consider Chubb as an insurance policy for the oft-injured Christian McCaffrey. Pete Carroll and the Las Vegas Raiders also feel like a good landing spot for the former Browns star, given his desire to run the ball aplenty.
