Ohio State quarterback Will Howard apparently thinks the Michigan Wolverines’ fanbase might have something to do with his declining draft stock.

Though he helped the Buckeyes to a national championship victory this past season, Howard isn’t exactly regarded as an elite quarterback prospect. He’s Mel Kiper’s fifth-ranked quarterback and only the No. 112 prospect on Pro Football Focus’ 2025 NFL Draft Big Board.

Will Howard’s performance at the 2025 Scouting Combine also drew mixed reviews, notably missing a handful of throws during the event. But the national championship-winning QB implied that the supporters of Ohio State’s archrivals are playing a factor in his not-so-high draft stock.

Speaking to Adam King of WBNS 10TV, Howard said the Wolverines’ fanbase blew his Combine performance “out of proportion” and thought he fared well in Indianapolis:

“The combine, obviously, there were some things said about it afterwards. I thought I did pretty well, I think really it was team up North fans blowing it out of proportion. I missed two throws obviously, but other guys did too.

“It’s definitely better being here in this building with my guys. You’re more comfortable, but you always want to put yourself in uncomfortable situations. I wasn’t mad about it. I thought I did well at the combine and I got good feedback from people except pretty much the media. It is what it is, it’s part of it.”

Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are the consensus top-two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart regarded as the third-best. That said, this year’s class is considered weak for signal-callers.

In his only season at Ohio State, Will Howard completed 73.1 percent of pass attempts for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 226 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

Howard spent the previous four seasons at Kansas State, throwing for 2,643 yards and 24 touchdowns in his last year with the Wildcats.

Which Teams Could Target Will Howard?

The Dallas Cowboys make sense as a landing spot for Will Howard if Jerry Jones is unsure about the 31-year-old Dak Prescott as his long-term solution, not to mention that Dallas needs a suitable backup.

If they don’t sign Aaron Rodgers or take a QB in round one, the Pittsburgh Steelers could target a quarterback like Howard in round two. The New Orleans Saints need a long-term guy with the oft-injured and inconsistent Derek Carr under contract for two more years, too.

The Los Angeles Rams may target Matthew Stafford’s successor, too, after the 37-year-old briefly pondered retirement.
