The Seattle Seahawks have been quite busy in recent weeks. DK Metcalf was shipped off to Pittsburgh. They replaced Tyler Lockett with Cooper Kupp. Multiple defensive starters from last season were let go.

On Friday, the Seahawks made another notable addition for their depth next season under head coach Mike Macdonald.

Seahawks add depth with D’Anthony Bell

Seattle is signing former Cleveland Browns special teams ace and safety D’Anthony Bell to a one-year contract, according to Jordan Schultz.

I discussed Bell’s potential impact with our Browns beat writer, Brandon Little.

D’Anthony Bell was once a hidden gem found by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent before the 2022 season. Bell ended up playing in 50 games over three seasons for the Browns and started seven games during that time. Bell has been primarily a special teams ace for the Browns when they’re healthy, and they’ve had him fill in as a third and fourth safety when they’ve dealt with injuries.

Bell is your typical build of a safety at 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds. The Georgia native is well-accepted in the locker room and a hard worker. From his very first training camp, Bell has been able to turn heads and make plays to catch the eyes of the coaching staff. Bell has two interceptions and a forced fumble in his career. A player that isn’t afraid to stick his nose in there and deliver some force. — Brandon Little

Macdonald has always valued these sort of players for defense and special teams. He understands the impact that top-flight ST play can have on a team looking to get back on track for a playoff run.

As for Bell, I’d expect him to be a depth safety behind Julian Love and Coby Bryant. If injuries occur there, he could slide into the starting lineup at some point. I won’t be shocked if they add another safety sometime in the 2025 NFL Draft, too.

Most of Bell’s impact will come on special teams, and that’s completely fine. Good add for Seattle overall, here.
