The Washington Commanders have been doing everything they can to ensure that Jayden Daniels has the protection and weapons he needs to succeed even more in his second year.

The franchise and the rest of the NFC East are reacting to Saquon Barkley signing a two-year, $41.2 million extension.

With Barkley’s extension, the running back market has been raised, and that usually does bode well for others, like free-agent-to-be Brian Robinson Jr.

Robinson has one year left on his deal, but the Commanders might be thinking of something else to do with him instead.

If Robinson goes this offseason without an extension, an injury could severely impact his career next season and put the Washington Commanders in quite a bind.

Pro Football Focus has gone through the process of naming each team’s best trade asset, and when it comes to Washington, they believe he should be sent packing so they could keep some money and find another running back in the draft.

“The Commanders’ offseason has centered on upgrading the pieces around Jayden Daniels,” Pro Football Focus writes in part.

“In that sense, it might seem paradoxical to trade Robinson, but there would be good reasons to do so. His PFF rushing grade has declined in all three seasons, and his 34 missed tackles forced in 2024 tied for 27th out of 31 qualified rushers. With Robinson only under contract for one more year and this draft class being rich at the position, trading him in favor of a rookie would be plausible.”

The Commanders could also benefit from extending him now instead of trying to wait another year.

Robinson Jr. could very well have a breakout campaign, and his price would only increase as a result.

The Washington Commanders continue to receive praise across the NFL for their aggressive start to the offseason.

The team has traded for five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Deebo Samuel in moves that could squarely put them in the Super Bowl conversation.

Washington had a top-five offense last season, and now that they have added Tunsil and Samuel, it should be even better.
