Aussie rocker Sam Wellings, aka Kim Dracula, narrowly avoided death on Monday after their tour bus went up in flames in the US. The singer, 26, endured the terrifying ordeal in Texas after being woken up by their crew, who were “screaming and banging on the door”.

Recalling the heartstopping incident after being forced to cancel their gigs in Texas and Arkansas, Wellings took to Instagram, explaining: “At 6am this morning our bus caught fire while we were sleeping. I was in the back behind a locked door and was woken up by my crew screaming and banging on the door telling me to get off the bus.

“We all got off immediately and within 30 seconds the entire bus was engulfed in flames, starting right where I was lying down.”

A video accompanying the post, showed the vehicle completely burned out with a charred and soot-strewn interior as well as two fire engines en route to the blaze.

Miraculously, no-one on the bus was hurt, however the crew’s possessions were destroyed, with Wellings continuing: “Most of us lost all our possessions, including things we needed for the show. As such, we were unable to perform tonight and will not be able to perform tomorrow.”

Explaining that the gigs in Texas and Arkansas have been cancelled, they added: “We hope to be back on the road supporting Ice Nine Kills starting in Madison.”

Concluding that they wanted to share the news sooner, but were unable to do so because they lost heir phone in the fire, Wellings signed off: “I am sorry to any of you who were looking forward to seeing us perform…

“I was unable to make this post any earlier as I lost my phone in the fire. Everyone in the crew is safe however, including myself. We look forward to jumping back in soon.

Wellings from Tasmania in Australia, shot to fame during the pandemic with viral metal remakes on TikTok.

Their uber popular cover of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi made them the fourth most-followed Australian music artist on the platform in 2020.

Since then, the star has released their album A Gradual Decline in Morale (2023), appeared on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s concept album Warriors, and earlier this year toured the U.S. with Japanese metalcore act Hanabie.

Welllings still hopes to bring his Horror Down Under tour to Australia this November.
