Talk about a hidden gem.
Back in 2008, before the hair started turning gray, before becoming a judge on The Voice, the mullet had only been removed for a few years, and Blake Shelton was still on his rise in mainstream country music, he delivered a stripped-down cover of The Black Crowes hit song, “She Talks To Angels.”
Released in 1990 on their debut album Shake Your Money Maker, “She Talks To Angels” went on to become one of the most popular songs of the ’90s rock era.
Can we please, please, please get this version of Blake back?
I don’t know where exactly this video came from originally, but all I know is that we sure could use some more performances like this from one of the most prominent faces of the genre.
Hell, bring back the mullet too why you’re at it.
And of course, here’s the original:
Tennessee Jet’s Country Version Of “She Talks To Angels”
If you’re not familiar with Tennessee Jet quite yet, you’re probably familiar with some of his work. He’s written a ton of songs for Cody Jinks, especially on this last couple records that Cody released.
And his 2020 album The Country is exactly that… a rock solid country record.
Featuring a knockout cover of “Pancho & Lefty” with Cody Jinks, Paul Cauthen, Elizabeth Cook, Mickey Raphael (harmonica player with Willie Nelson) and Lady Gaga’s trumpet player Brian Newman, the album also features another cover of The Black Crowes classic, “She Talks To Angels.”
And Tennessee Jet just knocked it out of the park.
