Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis has revealed her and her husband are living separately as she spoke candidly about their life. The actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023.
Bruce was diagnosed two years ago and Emma explained how the man she married is still shining through in a sweet update. She also revealed she is living separately from her husband now so his needs can be met.
The actor was supported by everyone to continue his acting in 2023, which allowed the Hollywood star to complete roles in films like Assassin (2023) and the Detective Knight trilogy (2022–2023).

New living arrangements
Speaking in a new documentary about their new living arrangements, she said: “It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve had to make so far. But I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.
“It’s our second home, so the girls have their things there. It is a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter. It’s been beautiful to see that – to see how many of Bruce’s friends continue to show up for him. They bring in life and fun.”
Family visits
Emma, Mabel and Evelyn and Bruce’s ex-wife Demi Moore and their daughters Rumer Willis, 36, Scout Willis, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 31, all visit and spend time with their dad when they can.

Asked what she would ask her husband if she could, Emma said: “I’d ask how he’s doing, if he’s okay, he feels okay. If there’s anything that we could do to support him better. I would really love to know that. If he’s scared.
“If he’s ever worried. I just would love to be able to just to have a conversation with him.”
Speech struggles
Emma explained Bruce is physically well but his ability to speak is fading. However, they have still found a way to communicate.
She said: “Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It’s just his brain that is failing him. We have a way of communicating with him that is just a different, a different way. But I’m grateful. I’m grateful that my husband is very much here.”

Retirement
Back in 2022, Bruce’s family announced his retirement from acting following his diagnosis with aphasia, a neurological disorder that impairs communication abilities.
In a statement at the time, it was revealed he was “experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.”
The statement added: “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him. This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
