Denise Welch has hinted that her role on Loose Women may have had a “knock-on effect” on her acting career, due to her reputation for being “opinionated”.

Speaking in an episode of The Number with Darren Kennedy podcast, recorded just weeks before her fiery debate with co-star Stacey Solomon about working from home, Denise opened up about how the show has shaped her public image and career trajectory.

The actress acknowledged that while the daytime TV gig showcased her true colours, it also had an impact on her acting career. Despite this, she admitted that appearing on Loose Women had opened doors to “other opportunities”, reports the Express.

Denise reflected: “I think resilience is a good word for me, yeah. Yeah, I think so. I think it’s always been about, as you get older in this business now, is about remaining relevant, you know.”

She added: “And doing Loose Women has been wonderful for me. Does it affect your acting career? Yes, it does. You know, if you become known as somebody who’s very opinionated.”

She further explained: “And also because of Loose Women, my partying and everything kind of played out a lot in front of people and what’s it. So it did have a knock-on effect on my acting career.

“But then again, it’s given me other opportunities that my acting career wouldn’t have given me. You know, forays into reality television, some bad, some good.”

In a recent discussion, Stacey, 35, argued in favour of remote work, highlighting its benefits for families, particularly those with children.

Denise then sparked a heated debate on Loose Women, claiming the UK is “grinding to a halt” due to staff shortages. She exclaimed: “We haven’t got the staff, where are the staff? They’ve disappeared!”

Stacey countered: “They don’t disappear because they’re working from home,” prompting Denise to question: “But, where are they, Stace?”

The 66-year-old panellist, known for her forthright opinions, later clarified to podcast hosts in the US that it was merely a “discussion on a discussion show” and that differing views are expected, saying Loose Women stars were “supposed to discuss things and maybe disagree”.

Denise, no stranger to controversy, had previously clashed with co-host Coleen Nolan during a May episode over Meghan Markle. The incident occurred when Royal expert Dickie Arbiter joined the conversation about a potential Royal family reunion.

Coleen attempted to steer the conversation, stating: “Listen… we don’t want [Dickie] on here to have a debate really. We want to know how Charles is doing now and, the future for Charles. It’s not a debate.”

“Well don’t have a guest on,” Denise blasted. “I can say what I like, Coleen!” The Loose Women host replied: “I’m not saying you can’t.”
