Ruth Langsford once discussed what she and Eamonn Holmes disagreed on in their marital home before finding a “middle ground”.

Ahead of announcing their split back in May, the couple shared their £3.2million mansion together in Surrey, along with their 22-year-old son Jack and dog Maggie.

Giving an insight into their home life last year, Ruth, 64, shared that the couple had to compromise when moving in together, as they liked completely different things.

She shared: “When I first met Eamonn, I was more into older houses while he liked new-builds. With our home in Surrey, we found our middle ground. Although we were the first people to live here and everything was shiny and new, it looks traditional on the outside.”

Ruth also said that Eamonn had pulled her out of her comfort zone when it came to decorating the house and making it more colourful.

“My walls are orange and red,” she added to House Beautiful Magazine. “Eamonn’s into colour and he’s pulled me out of my comfort zone. We’ve recently redone our hall and taken inspiration from a painting by the Irish artist Terry Bradley.”

Revealing what the couple had previously clashed over, the Loose Women star went on to say she had taken issue with Eamonn’s hoarding habit.

Ruth believes her love to keep things minimal stems from her childhood when her home was constantly changing, due to her dad being in the army.

She explained: “We’d turn up at a very bland army-quarters house and once my mum had dressed it with our stuff, it felt like home. It’s probably why I don’t like clutter, unlike Eamonn who is a hoarder.

“He keeps all his Manchester United match programmes. I’m sentimental about people and memories, but not about stuff or houses. Wherever I lay my hat, that’s my home.”

Ruth and Eamonn tied the knot back in 2010 at the lavish ceremony Elvetham Hall in Hampshire, 13 years into their relationship. Together they share son Jack, who currently lives away from the family home at university.

Back in May, the showbiz couple shocked fans by announcing they had split and were heading for a divorce. Following the news, it is believed that Ruth has remained at the home with Maggie, while Eamonn rents an apartment in South West London.

The Loose Women regular is yet to address their split in her own words, while her estranged spouse thanked fans for their support just days after it was announced.

On his GB News, alongside co-star Isabel Webster, he said at the time: “Before we move on, I would just like to thank people for their support for Ruth and I over the past few days.

“Your support, from both of us, is very much appreciated.”
