Piers Morgan has become the latest star to speak out about Jimmy Kimmel Live being permanently pulled by ABC over his Charlie Kirk comments – however, he’s on the side of ABC. The broadcaster took to X to call Kimmel a ‘liar’ and asked fans: “Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?”

The late night chat show was axed by American network ABC after host Kimmel commented on the killing of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Monday night. He said in his monologue: “Many in Maga-land are working very hard to capitalise on the murder of Charlie Kirk.

“While our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left. And by ‘statistical fact’, he means ‘complete bulls***’. Here’s a question JD Vance might be able to answer: who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6?”

Nextar Communications Group – which operates over 20 ABC affiliates – said in a statement that his comments were “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse”, resulting in ABC pulling the show.

While a number of big celebrities have slammed ABC for shelving the show over Kimmel’s comments, Piers Morgan has spoken out to support the move.

“Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers,” he tweeted. “Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?”

He followed it up with another tweet, which read: “REMINDER: Jimmy Kimmel has celebrated endless conservative stars’ cancellations… with savage glee.”

He then retweeted another comment which read, “The First Amendment does not protect performers like Jimmy Kimmel from being cancelled by their private sector employers. But I would have liked the outcome a lot better if the chairman of the FCC had not involved himself in it.” He shared it along with the caption: “I agree with this…”

Kimmel is said to be “p*ssed” over the cancellation of his show, with sources claiming that he “isn’t going to take this lightly”.
