Lee Rigby’s mum Lyn has emotionally revealed that she still talks to her late son every day and kisses his photo goodnight.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 22 May, will be eleven years since Lee was killed by two extremists outside the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, in May 2013. Appearing on Tuesday’s Loose Women, Lyn spoke about her late son and how the family were planning to mark 11 years since his murder.

Lyn said: “I have my own time every single day when I talk to Lee. I have a big photo on my wall, when everybody’s gone to bed, I usually have about an hour and I just look at his picture – tell him what I’ve done that day or what we’ve done, what the family has done, and then kiss him goodnight and then go to bed,” emotionally adding that she always keeps a place at the dinner table for Lee too.

Talking about what the family usually does on each heartbreaking anniversary of his murder, Lyn said: “We usually go up to the crematorium, we lay flowers with Lee, we’ll get all the family together and go for a nice meal. But now, all the kids have left home now, it’s only myself and Ian left. We’re scattered all over so it’s hard to get us all together now and again. [Tomorrow] it will be just us two, luckily I’ve got one of my daughters down with us looking after the dogs while I’m here [at Loose Women].”

It comes as Jack Rigby, the 13-year-son of Fusilier Lee, won Good Morning Britain Young Fundraiser Of The Year at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards, with TSB last year. The youngster originally came up with a poignant challenge undertaken to mark the 10th anniversary of his father Lee’s murder on May 22 2023 — to raise £250 by walking a marathon across the month.

The teenager, from Halifax, had been amazed enough when, last year, his original fundraising total escalated to over £50,000 as the Mirror publicised his cause and the nation, including the Prime Minister and countless celebrities, got behind him, with Jack donating the funds to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a brilliant charity that supports children bereaved of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces which has been by Jack’s side for a decade.

And in a joyful surprise at the award ceremony, which aired on ITV in October, hosts Carol Vorderman – with her felt tip pen and flipchart for scribbled maths – and Ashley Banjo, revealed donations from TSB, Pride of Britain, Go Fund Me, plus £12,000 from generous Daily Mirror readers.

Ashley then finally ran into the crowd and unveiled a stunning gift of £20,000 from Dragons’ Den Duncan Bannatyne, boosting Jack’s total to an astonishing £107,124. More than £10,000 for each year he has been without his dad. “Thank you so much,” is all the astonished schoolboy could utter open-mouthed, later admitting he was blown away by the “insane amount of money”.
