Denise Welch forced to apologise on air over Loose Women co-star’s Terence Stamp comment
Denise Welch has apologised to the family and friends of the late actor Terrence Stamp after her Loose Women co-star Janet Street-Porter’s not-so complimentary comments about the Hollywood star.
During today’s episode of Loose Women, Janet opened up about going on a date with Terrence Stamp decades after being introduced to him by a man she was having an affair with. While Janet had originally met Terrence at a lunch with his friend, he invited her out by herself the following week.
“We had lunch together and we got on really, really well. He was very shy, he wasn’t an easy guy to talk to,” she said.

The Loose Women panel were discussing their memories of late star Terrence Stamp“Anyway, he was drop-dead gorgeous as you can imagine. He asked if I could have lunch with him the next week.
“Me and Terry Stamp had lunch. I remember I was so excited, I was so looking forward to it,” she said. “What can I tell you ladies – he was the most boring bloke.
“He droned on about his vegetarian diet and the guy I was having an affair with had warned me, ‘Terry can be a bit of a bore.’”
Denise jumped in: “Sorry to all of Terry’s relatives who are tuning in today.” Janet quickly quipped back: “I don’t think there are that many of them around now, darling.”
She added that they had a “very pleasant” lunch, even though she heard “all the benefits of the avocado diet at great, great lengths”.
“We came out of the restaurant and onto Bond Street, and I remember all these women coming towards us, gobsmacked that there’s Terrence Stamp on the street – and what’s he doing with Janet Street-Porter.”
On Sunday night, Terrence Stamp’s family confirmed that the actor had died aged 87. The Oscar nominated star was best known for his roles in A Season in Hell, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Superman.
“He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come,” the family said in a statement.
“We ask for privacy at this sad time.” His cause of death has not been reported.
Terrence dated actress Julie Christie and supermodel Jean Shrimpton in the 1960s and married for the first and only time in 2002 to his 29-year-old bride Elizabeth O’Rourke. They divorced in 2008.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
