Piers Morgan will be bringing his uncensored views to Channel 5 in just a few weeks, after he left ITV’s Good Morning Britain in 2021 following public backlash he received for making negative comments about Meghan Markle

Piers Morgan is heading back to British television with a brand-new show on Channel 5, four years after his dramatic departure from ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

The outspoken broadcaster announced the news himself on X this morning, writing: “BREAKING: Brace yourselves Britain: our hit YouTube show @PiersUncensored is coming to TV! From Sept 12, @channel5_tv will broadcast the week’s best ‘PMU’ moments each Friday night… rousing debates, big-impact interviews & a hard dose of truth. Tune in Fridays at 11pm only on 5!”

The move will see Morgan’s YouTube series Piers Morgan Uncensored adapted for television in what show bosses have described as a ‘world first’ – as the venture sees YouTube and television come together.

Starting from September 12, Channel 5 will air a weekly 90-minute highlights package showcasing the most talked-about interviews and debates from Piers Morgan Uncensored, which the broadcaster has promised will include content that is “specially tailored” for its late-night audience.

Speaking about the partnership to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan said: “Piers Morgan Uncensored has become one of the world’s fastest-growing and most popular YouTube news channels, racking up over a billion views in just three years.

“I’m really excited our show will be crashing onto British TV screens in a game-changing partnership with 5, bringing viewers the most explosive debates, jaw-dropping interviews, and headline-grabbing moments every single week.”

Piers Morgan Uncensored was launched in April 2022 on TalkTV before moving exclusively to YouTube in 2024. The opinion-led series quickly became a digital success, amassing more than one billion views.

The channel has featured sit-downs with some of the world’s biggest names, including Donald Trump, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kanye West.

Piers Morgan has marketed it as a platform for “free speech” where he tackles controversial topics head-on. Channel 5’s commissioning editor Federico Ruiz said this new collaboration reflects where the television industry is heading.

He explained: “Being thrilled to have Piers Morgan on 5 doesn’t scratch the surface. Uncensored will be an excellent fit: our viewers love straight talk, big opinions, and unapologetic personalities – and Piers delivers all three and then some.

“A linear, terrestrial broadcaster partnering with a current affairs YouTube channel is the sort of exciting cross-cultural handshake that marks where the industry is heading. The fuse is lit. We’re braced for impact … Piers is coming to 5.”

Morgan, 60, started his career by rising through the ranks in Fleet Street as the editor of News of the World and the Daily Mirror before going on to carve out a second career as a broadcaster.

He has fronted programmes such as Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, served as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and co-hosted Good Morning Britain.

Morgan left his position at ITV after a clash with his colleagues over Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview got so heated that he stormed out during GMB’s live broadcast, and then refused to apologise for his remarks.

He later wrote: “Mid-afternoon, Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Director of Television, who I’d spoken to several times since yesterday, rang to say we were now ‘on the cliff edge’ and either I apologised, or I would have to leave GMB.

“And even if I did apologise, that wouldn’t be the end of it. The woke brigade would keep coming for me, demanding I apologise for everything else they find offensive – which of course, is absolutely everything.
