Speaking to The Loose Women panel, Paul Sinha revealed his mother learned about his sexual preferences without his approval as a friend took it upon themselves to out him.
Paul Sinha is one of the many members of the LGBTQI+ community to have been outed against their will – a particularly dangerous practice for those who have yet to come out of the closet.
Appearing on this Thursday’s (June 27) instalment of Loose Women, the Chase quizzer promoted his new book, One Sinha Lifetime, released earlier this year.
This eventually led him to remember that his mother had no idea he was gay until a misguided friend called her to out him as gay themselves.
The 54-year-old remembered: “it was an interesting process, coming out to my mum, somebody at a house party that we were hosting had a few too many drinks and rang up my home number and went: ‘your son is gay’ and put the phone down.”

Paul admitted that this was not the way he wanted to let his mother know about his preferences. “I thought it’d be a more organic and sweet process. It was difficult to have the agency of the decision taken away from you. I still don’t know which one of my friends it was.”
In his autobiographical book One Sinha Lifetime, Paul remembered how he was also humiliated over his sexuality on Sky’s hit show A League of Their Own, when he had jokingly said rugby player Stuart Broad was his dream “future husband.”
Presenter James Corden had asked him at the time: “so, Paul – I understand you really fancy Stuart.” Paul had no issue with the question as he penned in his book: “If you set yourself up as a gay comic who likes to playfully flirt with straight men, then you need to be able to own your persona on comedy panel shows.”
Unfortunately for him, John Bishop had other plans as he exclaimed: “Stuart, how does it feel to be sat next to a man who’s w***ed over your photos?”
But after going through his fair share of heartbreak, Paul has found love as he has been married with Oliver Levy for several years, after proposing to him with a £20 ring from Topshop.
The Chase’s Sinnerman explained his decision to offer the budget ring to his partner on Loose Men, stating: “”The one thing I knew he wouldn’t value was an expensive ring; that’s not what drives the relationship. It’s companionship and love and having fun, it’s not the value of jewellery. So I didn’t want to spend any money on the ring. It’s more money I can spend on the wedding.”
Oliver has since supported him through thick and thin, most notably his ordeal with Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in May, 2019.
