Phil Robertson’s Grandkids Reflect On The Type Of Man He Was
Following Phil Robertson’s death on May 25, four of his grandkids got together to share stories about their beloved “papaw.”
Phil’s granddaughter, Sadie, hosts the WHOA That’s Good Podcast. For the June 4 episode, she was joined by her brother, John Luke, and their cousins, Reed and Cole.
The four Robertson kids reflected on the type of man Phil was. They shared how he wouldn’t be able to comprehend the immense support they’ve received from their followers since he passed away. Although he was a public figure due to his role on Duck Dynasty, Phil didn’t fully understand the world of social media.
“He didn’t even really have a concept of social media,” John Luke said. The total outpouring of response, he wouldn’t have even seen it or even really cared about it.”
Sadie echoed her brother’s comments, saying, “[Phil was] like such a public figure who lived such a private life. He loved God. He loved Mamaw Kay. Loves our family. Loves to duck hunt. And like, that’s what he did.”
Phil Only Had One Rule, And He Stood By It
During one of the podcast’s lighter moments, Phil’s grandkids talked about the #1 rule he had for them growing up. In fact, it was his only rule, but he stood by it.
“He had one rule, that was it,” Reed said, noting otherwise it was “lawless” down at Phil and Kay’s house. What was Phil’s rule? “‘Do not wake me up from my nap,‘” Reed recalled.
Reed remembered one time when he came into the house “hollering and doing whatever and [Phil] came out there, and he said, ‘Alright, let’s go.’ I remember like it was yesterday.”
With a slight laugh, John Luke said Phil and Kay set them up to fail because their house is a double-wide. “The playroom is next to the bedroom,” he said. The walls are just like, wallpaper. It was hard to not be loud or wake him up.“
Sadie shared a clip from that part of the podcast on her Instagram page. Writing in the caption, she said:
“This episode was a special one. Coming together with @johnluke_robertson, @officialreedrob, and @thecolerobertson to talk about our Papaw Phil brought back so many memories. It was fun to laugh a lot too as we went down memory lane! Papaw Phil was truly a legend. He lived by example and was a man of simple faith AND simple lifestyle. There is so much that we can all learn from his life and legacy!”
