TMZ reported Joss and the suspect have been in disputes in the past.
What we don’t know:
Police have not released any details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Joss’ husband releases statement
What they’re saying:
A post on Joss’ Facebook page from the actor’s husband described the shooting and claimed Joss “was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.”
The actor’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claims that he and Joss had returned to their home, which had reportedly burned down in January, killing his dogs.
When they went to check the mail, Kern de Gonzales said they saw the remains of one of the animals. The pair began “yelling and crying,” according to Kern de Gonzalez.
They were then confronted by a man who he claimed yelled “violent homophobic slurs” and then pulled out a gun and fired.
“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” Kern de Gonzalez wrote.
Posts from Joss and Kern de Gonzales show the pair got married in February.
San Antonio Police later said on X that the department was investigating Joss’s murder, and disputed “online claims of this being a hate crime.”
SAPD says that the investigation currently has “found no evidence to indicate that the [sic] Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation”.
“SAPD investigators handle these allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. Should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly,” the department added in a follow up post.
