Alan Jackson and his wife, Denise, grew up in Newnan, Georgia. When a massive EF-4 tornado ripped through the town in March 2021, Jackson gathered some other country music heavy-hitters to put on a benefit to raise money for those who were impacted by the storm. The Where I Come From benefit concert raised money and boosted morale for those who needed it most.
Jackson has a laundry list of upbeat songs in his discography. However, none of them have the mood-boosting, toe-tapping power of “Chattahoochee.” The summer jam has been soundtracking good times since the 1990s and is Jackson’s signature song. Watch him bring the down-home summer vibes to those gathered to support his hometown below.
You can hear the sold-out crowd singing along with the summertime hit in the clip above. That’s more than the sound of a group of people enjoying good music. It’s the sound of a community coming together and healing.
Alan Jackson Raises Millions for His Hometown
When Alan Jackson took the stage, he didn’t just rip into a 22-song set. Instead, he took time to talk to the audience before playing some of his biggest hits. “It’s good to be back down here in my hometown of Newnan, Georgia,” he told the crowd. “I’m from Newnan. My wife, Denise, is from Newnan. We were both born and raised here, and all of our childhood and young adult memories come from this area,” he explained.
“When we saw what that tornado did coming through here a few months ago, it broke my heart. It broke Denise’s heart. We had relatives affected by it and friends,” he told them. “The high school that we went to got hit. I was hoping we’d be able to do something to try to help down here, and it’s just been amazing how this community came together to make this happen,” Jackson added.
Jackson’s Where I Come From benefit concert raised an estimated $2 million for his hometown. The money went to the Coweta Community Foundation’s tornado relief fund.
