“No walks for you today—you’re being medicated,” the shelter worker soothed softly, peering into the kennel. The young dog inside was striking—a mix of husky and possibly terrier, his coat fluffy and his expression anxious but sweet beneath the glow of perfect kennel lighting. Here’s a hard truth in sheltering: “bonded pair” dogs don’t always get adopted together. Sometimes they wait for months, overlooked, while solo dogs come and go. The staff desperately want to keep siblings united, but harder still is watching a pair wait for so long that neither ever finds a home.

So they spread the word: Woody and Buzz would do best adopted together, but if that wasn’t possible, a loving family each—any home where they’d feel safe, warm, and wanted—was the goal.
