Charlene White blasted by Loose Women viewers over not wearing a poppy ahead of Remembrance Day

Loose Women fans were left fuming after noticing that panellist Charlene White had not worn a poppy in order to honour Remembrance Day. While hosting the ITV daytime show, the ITV News presenter appeared not to wear the poppy on her outfit, which her co-hosts had done.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person raged: “Charlene shouldn’t be presenting as she doesn’t want to wear a poppy. No respect.” Another person said: “I do think it’s disrespectful for Charlene not to wear a poppy. I know it gets mentioned every year.”

Meanwhile, a third chimed in saying, “Charlene, why do you refuse to wear a Poppy? Every single person on the panel, in the audience, are wearing one, so why not you?”

Charlene was joined on the panel with Oti Mabuse, former popstar Kelle Bryan and comedian Judi Love. The trio were discussing Lily Allen’s split from Stranger Things actor David Harbour.

The main thing that appears to have enraged viewers is that Charlene’s co-hosts wore poppies, but she failed to do so. The poppy is worn as a sign of respect for those who lost their lives during the World Wars.

Another person penned: “Does Charlene not care that many men lost their lives fighting for our country? The disrespect of her not wearing a poppy is disgraceful.”

“Why isn’t Charlene White wearing a poppy?! Everyone else on Loose Women panel is. Disgraceful,’ while a sixth said: ‘Total disgrace to the memory of those who gave their lives for our future,” said another.

However, within the X thread, there were some who supported the TV personality. One person wrote: “In a democracy, you are supposed to be free to have your own views and opinions, not what the poppy police say you should do.”

A second person quipped: “Oops, the poppy police are out again.’ This is not the first time the TV presenter has not worn a poppy, and in a previous article, she explained why.

In an article for ITV written last year, she wrote that it was “never an easy decision due to the racist and sexist abuse” on the back of social media. But she acknowledged that her decision would undoubtedly create “a lot of anger.” At the time, she claimed that ITV rules meant that she was not allowed to visually support charities while “presenting ITV News programming.”

She went on to inform readers: “Please don’t think that I don’t understand the sacrifices made by servicemen and women 100 years ago. I do. It is always important to remember what my family, your family, and millions of people over many generations have fought for: the right to choose, and the right of freedom of speech and expression.”
