David Harbour’s ‘sinister’ note to Lily Allen has resurfaced amid the release of her new album. On her new music, West End Girl, Lily opens up about the end of her marriage to the Stranger Things star.
In one track, she appears to ‘namedrop’ the person David allegedly cheated on her with whilst in another track, she recalls how she turned to acting on her return to London, after she had originally moved to New York City to be with him. When she moved back to the UK, she claimed things started to crumble.
In the new music, Lily sings: “I said I got some good news I got the lead in a play, that’s when your demeanour started to change,” which seems a direct reference to her part in 2:22 A Ghost Story.
Lily was nominated for a Laurence Olivier award for her part in the play and at the time, she shared a picture of this note David had left her. Whilst she thought it was a joke at the time, fans are now describing it as “sinister”.

The note which David wrote to his wife read: “My ambitious wife, these are bad luck flowers, ’cause if you get reviewed well in this play you will get all kinds of awards and I’ll be miserable. Your loving husband.”
Some fans were quick to comment on the note, with one writing: “The entire note screams of sarcasm and dark humour.” However, another replied: “Agreed, but this comment is a long way from falling into the ‘Break A Leg’ category of saying mean things but meaning them in the best way possible..”
Another said in response: “What it doesn’t scream, is support, which is probably what someone needs more than sarcasm and dark humour on an occasion like that. It’s selfish, end of.”
Lily has been open about how her new album documents all kinds of emotions – including feelings of “abandonment”. She said: “I have deep-rooted issues with rejection and abandonment which I’ve been tussling with for most of my adult life and probably quite a lot of my childhood as well. And I was having, like, an extreme reaction to things at the time.”
Explaining the Perfect magazine that those “things” was the end of her marriage, she added: “It’s hard for me to not have my person, you know? And I am quite a co-dependent person.
“I find it difficult to lean on the people who are available to me when I’m missing the comfort and stability of what is not available to me. I know that what I have to do is to be able to make myself happy and that is a source of extreme irritation for me.
“It means doing the f***ing work, and I feel like I’ve been doing the work for fucking ages. I’m exhausted by it. And I thought it was done. I thought it was happily ever after, you know?”
