Elizabeth Hurley has revealed why she started dating Billy Ray Cyrus earlier this year after his marriage to Firerose came to an end

Elizabeth Hurley has opened up about how she started to date Billy Ray Cyrus after staying single for 11 years.

The Bedazzled actress, 60, surprised fans when she struck up a relationship with the Achy Breaky Heart singer, 63, earlier this year after his marriage to Firerose came to an end.

During an appearance on Tuesday’s Loose Women, Liz, who has son Damian, 23, with Steve Bing, explained that it all came about at the right time for her. She said: “Timing is everything. Prior to that, I was a single mum to a single child.

“I took that really seriously. After I split up with my last proper boyfriend, which was Shane [Warne]. It just didn’t seem right to have introduce someone into my life. But now it’s a good time.”

Liz also reflected on her years as a single more. In recent years, she and her son have teamed up professionally and he famously directed her in Strictly Confidential last year. He’s also started to follow in his mother’s footsteps with his own modelling career.

But on their relationship as mother and son, Liz admitted that they simply get on so well together because they were left with no other choice but to get along on the years that they were on their own.

She said: “We both try quite hard but we work really well together. Because we spent so much time together because it was just the two of us for so long, we couldn’t fall out with anyone. Because of that, we did that one bit harder to stay really good friends!”

She joked: “If he was football mad or something, we wouldn’t have anything.”

The Inheritance star has also recently revealed that she is going to extreme lengths to please her new man and he is teaching her to play the guitar, even though, by her own admission, things are not going too well.

She told Hello!: “I’ve been in England all summer for the first time ever and have loved every moment. Billy is teaching me to play the guitar; right now I’m appalling but I’m hoping to improve!”

Prior to his split from Firerose, Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker Billy had been married to Tish Cyrus for a number of decades. Together, they have Braison, 31, and Noah, 25, together.

They are also parents to pop superstar Miley Cyrus, 32, who shot to global fame when she and her dad starred together on Hannah Montana for Disney Channel nearly 20 years ago. The sitcom followed the Wrecking Ball singer as a teenager who led double life as a pop star with the help of a blonde wig.

Billy Ray also adopted Brandi and Trace, whom she has from a previous relationship, and he is also father to Christopher, 33, with Kristin Luckey.

Despite finding their romance ‘unexpected’, Elizabeth admitted in May that she’s optimistic about what lies ahead. Speaking with E! News, she shared: “It was unexpected. But we’re very happy together. And hopefully we’ll have a great life.”

At the time, her big birthday was just on the horizon and she noted that she wanted to leave it all to ‘chance’ rather than plan something.

“I always leave things to chance, I like birthdays though. I like getting presents, I like getting flowers, I like everyone being nice to me for a day. So, whatever we do will be fun.”
