Janet Street-Porter has been left ‘disappointed’ with Serena Williams after she admitted to taking weight loss injections.

The broadcast legend, 78 was on her usual seat on the Loose Women panel on Tuesday alongside anchor Christine Lampard , Kelle Bryan and Gloria Hunniford when the lunchtime ladies were discussing the tennis star’s recent revelation that she had lost two stone by taking a weight loss jab.

Janet did not shy away when giving her opinion, and looked down the barrel of the camera as she addressed the sports star directly. She said: “I feel a little bit disappointed. Of course, she’s entitled to do it and her husband is on the board of the company that makes the drug so she’s helped him out by promoting it.

“You’re not just a champion tennis player, you’re a role model so many women look up to you, you’ve broken so many barriers, and you stand for so much. I just think jabs are not the answer fore everyone, l they don’t solve the problem in the long term.

“They are a quick fix solution and what’s bothering me really is the number of people abusing these jabs. How easy it is to get them and if you can afford them. There’s people who don’t need to lose weight at all who are microdosing.

“I just feel that she’s signed up to something that’s good for some people which comes with so many caveats and so many reasons to, not to doubt, but to feel anxious about.

“It’s not a good look for her!”

Serena has said that she has struggled to control her weight since giving birth to her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017 and then her second daughter Adira River in August 2023. She is a 23-time Grand Slam champion and, although she retired from tennis in 2022, she still works out regularly.

She has been using Zepbound, a GLP-1-based drug that is similar to other brands like Ozempic and Mounjaro.

GLP-1 is short for glucagon-like peptide-1 and is a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite, and Serena explained to People that she took the injection after years of being unable to reach her goal.

“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” the 43-year-old said. “It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at.

“I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best. So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked.”
