He slammed “women attacking a vulnerable young woman”

Aroyal hairdresser has slammed “evil” trolls criticising Kate Middleton’s new, blonder hair as some wondered whether she was wearing a “wig”.

The Princess of Wales, 43, showed off her eye-catching look on Thursday (September 4), as she and husband Prince William returned to royal duties following the summer break.

There had been speculation at the end of August that Princess Kate may have lightened her hair as she attended a church service at Balmoral. But after royal fans were able to give Kate’s new appearance a fuller assessment on Thursday as she visited the Natural History Museum, Princess Diana’s former hair stylist has hit out at anyone taking aim at the princess.

‘Shame on you’

Hairdresser Sam McKnight, known for his work with celebrities including the late Princess Diana, lashed out on Instagram at “nasty comments” he had seen about Kate from other social media users.

Some trolls on social media had expressed their disapproval of Kate’s apparent new hair colour. Others thought she was wearing a “wig”.

He fumed in a post shared with his 238,000 followers: “I am shocked, horrified, dismayed and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today.”

Sam went on: “A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it is armour, defence, confidence, and so much more.

“I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made by other women, attacking a vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married and the role she took on, to bravely face the public.”

Sam’s message continued: “I’m sure she would rather be away from the public arena. She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation.”

Sam then brought up the health issue that Kate has endured. The furious MBE holder added: “Cancer affects individuals differently, but [it] is life-changing for everyone. So FFS leave her alone. Shame on you.”

How Sam McKnight followers reacted to Kate Middleton ‘wig’ jibes

Fans commenting on Sam’s post seemed to agree with his take.

“THIS,” one supporter agreed, making use of clapping emojis to emphasise the point. “She is gorgeous and her hair is too.”

Shame on those who are being rude and nasty because of her hair colour.

Someone else concurred: “I am with you Sam. Princess of Wales’ blonde hair is gorgeous and perfect! Princess Catherine of Wales’ hair is so very gorgeous and her blonde hair is phenomenal gorgeous! She look very elegant and very vibrant. A professional royal look for public service!”

Meanwhile, another fan echoed Sam’s remarks: “Shame on those who are being rude and nasty because of her hair colour. Everyone can have an opinion and that’s okay but it’s not okay to say it looks awful on her or that she’s aged. She’s in remission and people tend to forget that!”
