Peter Andre took to Instagram to celebrate an emotional family milestone he ‘prayed’ would happen

Peter Andre has shared his joy at an emotional family milestone he “prayed for” recently.

Taking to Instagram, the star posted two sweet pictures of his parents, Savvas and Thea Andrea, to celebrate the couple’s 70th wedding anniversary. In the caption of the post, he shared how he had “prayed for this moment” and thanked them for being an inspiration to him.

The post, which was uploaded today (8 September), featured four photographs. The first was of Peter’s parents when they were younger, and the second was a more recent picture of the two. Underneath these were two pictures of letters from King Charles and the Governor-General of Australia, Samantha Mostyn, congratulating Savvas and Thea on their platinum anniversary.

Peter captioned the post: “I prayed for this moment. They made it. 70 years of marriage for the most incredible parents. Mum and dad, we love you more than words can describe. Please may Jehovah bless you both. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Two of a kind.

“I am smiling thinking of you. See you both very very soon.”

Thea, 90, and Savvas, 92, live in Australia. Last year, Peter shared how close he was to his parents and how the hard it was seeing his parents struggle with their health, especially his mother, who is living with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

He wrote in his New! column: “Although I thank God my parents are still here, I am seeing the rapid decline, especially in Mum. I find that part hard to deal with.

“Like most people,” he added. “I’m so close to my parents that it is really difficult to come to terms with.”

Peter, 52, shared a similar message last year, as his parents celebrated their 69th anniversary. He posted a video of his father delivering flowers to Thea in the care home where she lives. The clip shows Thea reacting in delight as her husband approaches her with the bouquet.

Like this year, Peter called his parents an inspiration: “You inspire me so much mum and dad. Love you so very much. My 91-year-old dad giving flowers to my beautiful mum. Happy 69th wedding anniversary.”

Peter himself celebrated a milestone this year as July marked his 10th anniversary with wife Emily MacDonagh. Peter met Emily, 36, when her father became his surgeon after he was rushed to hospital with a kidney problem. On The Ray Darcy Show last year, he recalled how he asked her father if it was okay to take Emily on a date.

“One day I thought, ‘Oh oh, I’m starting to get feelings for Emily. What am I going do here?’,” Peter explained. “I thought if her father finds out, he’s going to wish he did a different operation, so I went and asked him. I said, ‘Look before I say anything to Emily, I’m really sorry, but I’ve got feelings for her. Are you OK with me asking her on a date?’

“He laughed, and he said to me he kinda felt there was a chemistry going on. He was great about it – and he remains one of my best friends. We’re together all the time.”
