Is it time for King Charles and Prince Harry to meet in person?

King Charles is set have a meeting with his son Prince Harry for the first time in nearly two years when the duke makes a UK return, it has been claimed.

According to the Mirror, the royal father and son are likely to reconcile when Prince Harry visits the UK in just under a fortnight.

The tabloid reports relations have “begun to ease” following last month’s “peace summit” – but any healing of any rift between Prince Harry and Prince William is unlikely to occur, it is claimed.

When will King Charles and Prince Harry be meeting?

Prince Harry is expected to be in London on Monday, September 8.

He will be making the trip – reportedly without wife Meghan Markle or their children – to attend the WellChild Awards. The event also coincides with the third anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry’s late grandmother.

Meanwhile, King Charles is not expected to be out of the UK at that time. And so, the Mirror suggests, the first in-person meeting between King Charles and Prince Harry since February 2024 appears as if it might be on the cards.

Earlier this year, the monarch’s second son indicated to the BBC he was keen on a detente with his family.

Speaking in May, Prince Harry admitted: “It would be nice to reconcile.” He also seemed to acknowledge the king’s cancer battle as he noted at the time: “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen.

Now, an unnamed source is quoted as claiming to the Mirror: “It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen. Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry.”

‘A simple conversation between a father and his son’

The insider is said to have added there is a feeling a reconciliation may be “within reach”.

They are also quoted as saying: “After 20 months apart, and with the king continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step. This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings. It’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son.

“The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue. As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand.”

In July it was claimed a meeting between the Duke of Sussex’s chief of communications and a representative for the king could prove a “first step” in making up.

The Mail on Sunday was told at the time: “There’s a long road ahead. But a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.”

Royal Insider has approached representatives for Prince Harry and Buckingham Palace for comment.
