His brother William is next in line to the throne
Princess Diana felt Prince Harry was “better equipped to be king” compared to William, a royal commentator claimed.
Prince William, the Prince of Wales, is next in line to the throne following his father King Charles. And there’s no doubt that William knew of his destiny as the future monarch from a very young age.
But according to one royal expert, the late Princess Diana thought Prince Harry would be better suited to become king – even more so than his older brother and actual heir to the throne, William.

Princess’ nickname for Harry and William
Speaking to Slingo, royal commentator Charles Rae lifted the lid on the royals’ nicknames, including Princess Diana’s special name for her sons.
The expert claimed: “Diana dubbed Harry GKH (Good King Harry) because she thought he would have been better equipped for the role as a future king.”
She also used the nickname to “make Harry feel that extra special”, Charles claimed.
As for the older Prince’s nicknames, the royal expert claimed: “Both she [Diana] and Charles referred to William as Wombat when he was much younger.”
Diana reportedly gave William the nickname.

Could Prince Harry ever become king?
Yes, Prince Harry could still become king, as he’s in the line of succession for the British throne. The royal and his wife stepped down as senior royals of The Firm in 2020. Despite removing themselves in a working capacity, and having their HRH titles stripped professionally, they are still members of the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex is currently fifth in line to the throne, following his brother and William’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Following King Charles, first-born William will be first in line to take his place. He would only not sit on the throne if he abdicates or upon his unexpected death. After William, it’s Prince George, followed by his sister Princess Charlotte and their younger brother Prince Louis. Prince Harry would be king if the four royals abdicated or were otherwise removed from the line of succession.
In this scenario, although unlikely, Harry would be the monarch and wife Meghan Markle queen consort.
However, it’s not expected to happen as when Prince George grows up, and if he has children of his own, the line of succession will change again.
