This Morning star Dr Ana had to correct herself live on air after giving out advice on how to treat chickenpox in children – and warned viewers of the dangers of using ibuprofen

This Morning star Dr Ana was forced to correct herself after receiving some backlash from viewers over the information she had given.

The GP had been giving advice earlier on ITV’s magazine programme when discussing how to treat chickenpox, telling viewers that it can be treated with paracetamol and ibuprofen. However, producers hastily rushed in to give her more time after the segment had aired to clarify what she had meant about providing painkillers to treat fevers.

After being re-introduced by hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, she said: “Thank you for giving me this chance. When you’re treating a fever in relation to chickenpox, please don’t use ibuprofen.”

She continued: “You can use paracetamol, that’s absolutely fine. But ibuprofen has an anti-inflammatory section to that and that can actually give you a very small risk of infection within those spots.

“Thank you for pointing that out, and it’s just important that we make that clear now.”

Earlier in the programme, Dr Anna had joined the programme’s regular presenters to discuss various childhood illnesses and gave out some advice on treating a fever. She said: “Fever I think it’s really important to try to remain calm. Children are allowed eight to 10 illnesses with a fever per year. That’s a heck of a lot.

“You get most of them during the winter, you might get one a week. That is fine, provided you’ve got [your children] in light clothing, you’ve got air and you’re giving them fluids, giving them paracetamol and ibuprofen, that temperature comes down, the cheeky personality of your child comes back. Happy days.”

But the apparent slip of the tongue did not go unnoticed by viewers, who flocked to X to point out the doctor’s error. One wrote: “#ThisMorning are you sure that children with chicken pox should take Ibuprofen?

“I understand that this is not advised as it can increase the risk of further skin infections and exacerbate the task. I understand that Paracetamol is the recommended option.”

Another said: “Thought ibuprofen was to be avoided with chickenpox ?” and a third also insisted: “I was advised not to give ibuprofen for chicken pox.”

After Dr. Ana corrected herself, several viewers piled back onto social media to share their reaction. One said: “Glad the Dr read the hashtag and was corrected about not giving children ibuprofen when they have chickenpox” and another said: “So the “Doctor” got it wrong!”

A third said: “Oh so she just remembered this?” before adding: “What’s with the stage school facial expressions?”
