Tom Daley admits he would like to see a major change to Celebrity Traitors after being left “annoyed” by a snub on the show. The 31-year-old Olympian featured in this year’s star-studded version of the popular murder-mystery format.

However, Tom was “murdered” in the opening stages by the Traitors in an attempt to cast suspicion on Kate Garraway. Tom reckons the Traitors – Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross, and Cat Burns – were targeting people who might have “figured it out”.

The athlete confesses he was initially disappointed at being assigned as a Faithful, revealing that he prefers to be “in control” as a professional sportsman. Speaking to the Guardian, Tom said: “It’s really intense.

“When I wasn’t a traitor, I was annoyed. You can think, ‘Just play the game and have fun and see where we get.’ But as an athlete, I like to be in control.”

Beyond the programme’s notorious round tables – where participants debate who deserves to be banished – Tom reveals he was particularly keen on the physical challenges. He acknowledges that whilst audiences might think they “don’t really need to see” these segments, the experience is completely different as a participant, reports Wales Online.

He was eager to be “jumping out of helicopters” and attempting to boost the prize fund for charity. Rather than that, Tom now finds himself watching from his sofa as his co-stars tackle the challenges set before them.

The Olympic champion felt the programme needed a significant overhaul to its structure. He explained: “I think what they should have considered is a resurrection. Bringing someone back from the dead after, like, the first four murders.”

Tom revealed he’d suggested the concept to programme makers, but they turned it down. In the latest instalment of Celebrity Traitors, the Faithful eliminated Kate.

This followed their previous discovery that chat show presenter Jonathan Ross was amongst the Traitors. The 64-year-old gave an “iconic” departure statement following his elimination by the group.

He said: “I’ve got no idea what everyone’s doing wrong. I cannot believe you’ve done it again. I cannot believe that I’m standing here for no good reason, so I don’t want to be rude, but you’re idiots.

“I am now, and I have been all through the game completely Faithful…” he announced, prompting dismayed expressions from fellow contestants, before finishing with: “…to the Traitors.”

Beyond Celebrity Traitors, Tom returns to television this week with Game of Wool: Britain’s Best Knitter on Channel 4. Broadcasting from 8pm tonight, the programme features 10 amateur participants competing for the title of Britain’s finest knitter.

This week contestants will tackle reimagining the traditional Fair Isle design on a tank top, before collaborating to create a full-sized sofa through knitting.
