The new host of Jeopardy!Ken Jennings, has become an integral part of the show, but there’s one major characteristic that separates him from many other game show hosts. Jeopardy! originally aired in 1964 and is now one of the longest-running game shows on TV. The show’s iconic answer-and-question format has captivated audiences for years and, despite the loss of its beloved host, Alex Trebek, the series has continued to surprise fans with its ingenious take on pop culture.

However, after the passing of Pat, the show took a hiatus for a couple of years until a new host joined the floor: Jennings was one of the most renowned contestants in the show’s history, and he became a beloved figure after his record-breaking winning streak in 2004 consisted of over 70 winning games. Given his history with the franchise, he became the best-suited person for hosting the long-time game show and, while he’s the best person for the job, the truth is that Jennings’s heart lies outside the studio.

In 2020, when Alex passed, the series replayed older episodes until a new host was found. About two years later, Jeopardy! welcomed Jennings onto the show as the newest host. His long-running championship earned him the respect and admiration of viewers over the years and fans were excited to see the new host shine in all his glory. However, Jennings handles his work schedule a little differently than other game show hosts, as he often travels on a weekly basis to record episodes. Jennings and his family live primarily in Seattle, Washington, which is also where he grew up.

Meanwhile, Jeopardy! is filmed in Los Angeles and is usually recorded on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As a result, Jennings would normally fly to Los Angeles and stay in his small home that he uses for work purposes. Then he would return to his 4,500-square-foot home outside of Seattle once he was done filming. He has a luxury three-story home that’s worth almost $3 million. The house has views of the amazing Washington mountains and a beautiful lake, and he made it clear that he has no interest in moving to LA full-time.

‘Jeopardy!’s Ken Is a Family Man

While Jennings enjoys hosting the show and has a strong love for the game show, the truth is, his heart lies elsewhere. Jennings is a family man at heart. He met his wife, Mindy, at Brigham Young University, and they got married in 2000. Together they have two children, a son named Dylan and a daughter named Caitlin. However, despite winning $4 million on Jeopardy! the long-term champion lives a modest lifestyle.

Ken Jennings even prefers to drive a Toyota Corolla back and forth from the set. Additionally, according to a studio insider, Jennings is simply not a “creature of Hollywood.” In fact, his decision to live primarily in Seattle was an intentional one, as he and his wife believe Seattle is a more suitable place for their blossoming family. Unfortunately, though, the distance from his family is the “hardest part” of his job. Being away from his family for long stretches of time and having multiple homes has its drawbacks, yet he has no intentions of moving to Los Angeles full-time.

In the end, the brilliant contestant and now host is clearly a family man and makes his decisions based on how they’ll influence his wife and kids. As it seems, despite the status, fame, and fortune the show has earned him, Jennings would much rather stay in his comfort zone and where his family would most likely thrive the best. Luckily, given his schedule, traveling back and forth seems to work well for him, but it does leave the question of how long Jennings might intend to stay apart of the series. With distance being the most difficult obstacle to conquer and his obvious preference for not disrupting his family’s lifestyle, perhaps he might come to realize the hosting gig isn’t what he fully expected.
